What does pelvic physiotherapy involve?

Pelvic physiotherapy intended for both men and women and can help with a wide range of issues, including various forms of incontinence, urinary frequency, constipation, prolapses, lower abdominal pain, prostate issues, sexual problems, pelvic pain, and related lower back pain due to, for example, pregnancy and/or childbirth.

The pelvic floor is an important muscle group that supports organs such as the bladder, uterus, and intestines. If these muscles are either too weak or too tense, various issues can arise. Pelvic physiotherapy focuses on restoring balance in this muscle group, which helps improve control over bladder and bowel functions and leads to better physical and sexual health.

What does a pelvic physiotherapist do?

A pelvic physiotherapist begins with a thorough intake interview and physical examination to understand the nature of the complaints. This may also include an internal examination, either vaginal or anal. Based on the findings, an individual treatment plan created. This may include exercise therapy to strengthen or relax the muscles, manual techniques, biofeedback, and advice on posture, breathing, and lifestyle. The goal of pelvic physiotherapy is to reduce complaints, improve quality of life, and prevent further issues.

The first appointment lasts about one hour, for which two sessions charged. Pelvic physiotherapy offers a personalized and scientifically supported approach, with the patient at the center. This therapy is suitable for anyone experiencing issues in the pelvic area and can make a significant contribution to recovery and well-being.

Pelvic physiotherapy during pregnancy

If you are experiencing pregnancy-related complaints, our pelvic physiotherapist can help. They work to reduce your symptoms and make movement comfortable again. Through targeted exercises, pelvic stability can improve and the muscles in the lower back and pelvic floor strengthened. Often, after just a few sessions of pelvic physiotherapy, you will already notice a reduction in your symptoms.

A common complaint during pregnancy is pain in and around the pelvis, neck, shoulders, and lower back. Due to major physical changes and hormonal shifts, these issues can also persist after childbirth. Try to avoid prolonged sitting or standing, frequent bending, walking (especially stairs), and lifting as much as possible. Pregnancy-related complaints considered to be present up to 9 months after giving birth.
