From experience we understand how limiting knee complaints can be. Whether you are young and exercise intensively, or older and notice that daily activities no longer go smoothly: knee pain affects us all at a different time and in a unique way.

Knee complaints can arise acutely, for example due to a fall or twist during sports, but can also build up slowly due to overload, incorrect posture and wear and tear. As a result of your complaints, you may need surgery on your knee.

The knee is a hinge joint. This means that the mobility of the knee consists of stretching and bending. Just like the hinge of a door opens and closes.

If we look further at the anatomy of the knee, the upper leg is straight on the shin bone. The bottom of your thigh consists of two spheres and the top of the shin is a plateau. Both surfaces contain cartilage, a sliding layer between joints.

The knee must bear quite a bit of weight. That is why there are two soft, crescent-shaped cushions between your thigh and your shin. Both meniscus.

The meniscus ensures that the upper leg is in a cup. In collaboration with your cruciate ligament, inner tube, and outer band, it ensures that your thigh does not slide off your shin.

Then you still have your kneecap. The kneecap acts as a lever for the muscles, making it easier to transfer the forces to, for example, extend your thigh.

Next to the tibia there is another bone, your fibula. If we roll a roll of cling film around this a several times, the hairstyle, we have a complete knee joint.

A common complaint in the knee is Patella Femoral pain syndrome. Loosely translated as kneecap-thigh pain syndrome. The cooperation of the bones and muscles is no longer ideal. As a result of this imbalance, a dormant complaint in the knee remains. No cause, varying complaints, and additional examination by means of an X-ray do not reveal any abnormalities.

Our physiotherapists, who are members of the North Brabant knee network, have further specialized in complaints in and around the knee. Pain is always a signal that should taken seriously. They are happy to take the time to listen to your story to start a process with you, so that you want to get back on the field as soon as possible, be able to play with the grandchildren without worries, or simply walk up the stairs again without pain.
